The Polistream R4000 family is an ideal solution for transcoding, re-timing and bridging subtitles on single pass through channels. This is often required where video decoders and encoders do not pass the subtitle data and introduce a signal delay or where the incoming subtitles need to be converted (transcoded) into a different output format. The R4000 ASI unit and the R4000i IP unit support a range of ASI, IP and mixed infrastructure designs.

DVB to DVB re-timing.

The base R4000 unit supports the reception, re-timing and reinsertion of DVB subtitles using its two ASI inputs and one ASI output. One ASI input receives the input signal and the output ASI drives the local multiplexer. The second ASI input is used to recover the outgoing timing clock (PCR) from the multiplexer's output.

The R4000i unit supports the same functionality but using a high speed Giga Ethernet connection with IP based input, output and PCR streams and so integrates with a fully IP based infrastructure.

Program Map Table Module PMT As an option the R4000 or R4000i can add to or modify the Program Map Table (PMT) in the input stream to update the table references to the location, language and type of subtitles in the output stream.

Imitext and SCTE-27 Transcode Module ITM The ITM transcodes Imitext or SCTE-27 subtitles into either DVB or open formats. This is used to support pass through channels with legacy Imitext and SCTE-27 subtitle services.

DVB Teletext to DVB bitmap transcode option.

Often where incoming channels have Teletext format subtitles from legacy analogue services these need to be converted to DVB to support modern Set Top Boxes on digital services. Adding one or more VID software modules and DVB encoders to a R4000 will support single or multi-language transcoding. DVB Teletext subtitles are received from an incoming ASI signal and are extracted by the VID module. The resulting subtitles are then encoded as DVB bitmap subtitles and sent to the multiplexer via the ASI output of the R4000.

			VBI Input Module VID The VID module in conjunction with one channel of a VBI2 card provides decoding of Teletext data for use within a Polistream system. Uses include Teletext re timing and insertion, Teletext transcoding to other subtitle formats or for monitoring purposes.
			Bitmap Encode Module The Encoder Module provides the rendering and encoding of subtitle text into Open, DVB or Imitext formats. Now supports HD resolution in both 1080i and 720p format bitmaps for Open and DVB to the ETS300 743 V1.3.1 standard

VBI Teletext to DVB bitmap transcode option.

Often where incoming channels have Teletext format subtitles from legacy analogue services these need to be converted to DVB to support modern Set Top Boxes on digital services. Adding a VBI2 card, one or more VID software modules and DVB encoders to a R4000 will support single or multi-language transcoding from VBI Teletext data. The VBI Teletext subtitles are received from an incoming SDI or Analogue video signal and are extracted by the VID module. The resulting subtitles are then encoded as DVB bitmap subtitles and sent to the multiplexer via the ASI output of the R4000.

Fitted into an R4000 unit the VBI cards provides two independently switchable analogue/digital 525/625 line inputs When used in conjunction with Polistream software modules each input can be used to receive VBI based data including Teletext subtitles, packet 31 data and VITC time code.
