Subtitle Monitoring The Polistream MSX monitoring system is an extremely powerful tool providing end to end monitoring of subtitles and data streams from any location with access to a local or wide area network or ISDN phone line. MSX is a technological breakthrough allowing Polistream and conventional subtitle transmission product users to probe deeper into their system than ever before. It is easy to use and will greatly speed up both the identification and correction of issues in the transmission pipeline. MSX not only detects and signals imperfections in the stream, it will also analyse the subtitles. Broadcasters, channel managers and content providers within the organisation can view the subtitles as they are sent to ensure service quality. MSX can be used to monitor subtitle transmission from end to end. It can monitor and display data in many formats. This allows the user to see subtitles as they would appear to the viewer. The system is ideal for confidence monitoring or fault location. MSX can display many channels with multiple languages on one computer display and it saves considerably in space and cost over multiple monitors and decoders. Custom views can also be created depending on individual system requirements via the powerful system editor. NEW - Remote version with support for multi-user remote workstations and dedicated ASI & SDI signal inputs. NEW - Now supports the monitoring of HD DVB subtitles to the ETS300 743 V1.3.1 standard Key Features and Benefits · Multiple channels and subtitle languages on a single display · IP connected, no video or stream signal routing required when used with a Polistream transmission system · Multiple display configurations supported · Speech detection option · Custom views can be created using the system editor

Channel Monitoring Channel Monitoring The channel monitoring module provides a sophisticated monitoring function to the MSX toolkit. The module creates a subtitle timing signature for each subtitle feed and displays this below each subtitle view. This is represented as a horizontal bar chart displaying the length and spacing of the subtitles over time. In addition to the subtitle streams signatures can be generated from other sources including a network feed from a Polistream transmission system. These provide independent indications of when subtitles should be present. In the channel monitor module the user can set up comparisons between different signature so as to monitor subtitle presence and timing accuracy. This addresses one of the major challenges for subtitle monitoring in knowing if there should be subtitles present or not. By comparing actual subtitle timing against wither a similar language, the signature of the transmission output or the dialogue pattern in the audio stream an intelligent and automatic alarm can be generated. If there is a mismatch between sources an alarm can be raised to alert the operator. In multi channel multi language systems this removes the need to check visually multiple screens and so free up operator time. The comparison combinations and the level of matching required are all configurable. Once a system is set up for a specific channel(s) it will monitor the subtitle signatures and display the status as green or red bars on the timeline. If the match falls below the set level an alarm will be raised.

Remote Monitoring Off Air Monitoring The Polistream Monitoring System can provide monitoring of off-air signals. The MSX system can be run on any PC with network access to the data to be monitored. This allows a user to see subtitles for a channel that cannot be accessed locally. For example if a channel up-linked to a satellite but the originator is not in the footprint of the satellite it is difficult to monitor the accuracy of the subtitles. MSX will allow a receiver within the down link footprint to capture the data so the user can view the subtitles over any suitable network link. · Allows the display of multiple subtitle language one or more channels · Allows data analysis and subtitle specific data analysis Data formats supported: · DVB bitmap subtitles · DVB Teletext subtitles · Teletext · Imitext subtitles (Serial or ASI) Physical interfaces supported: · ASI for DVB bitmapped and Teletext · Ethernet for all formats · SDI for Teletext data · Composite video for Teletext data Displays available: · A wide range of display layouts can be configured including: · Multiple subtitle languages for one channel · Multiple subtitle languages for multiple channels · Single language · Letter box style or correct aspect ratio style (4:3 or 16:9) · Multi-monitor systems are supported by configuring one display for each monitor · A range of diagnostic displays are available (MSX Workstation version only) including: · DVB subtitle delivery timing display - Displays graphically the time a DVB subtitle PES packet will be delivered to the decoder and highlights any timing errors. · DVB subtitle bitrate display - Displays graphically the bandwidth usage of DVB subtitle PES packets · DVB subtitle packet decode - Displays low level details of the contents of DVB subtitle PES packets · Audio Description (AD) control track display - Displays the pan and fade information for subscriber mix AD channels
